Pride, Power, Progress

As Juneteenth and Pride Month converge, we celebrate the resilience, fortitude, and diverse narratives within our community. This issue of our newsletter highlights the lives and work of African American men, individuals who embody the spirit of liberation and contribute to the richness of our shared story. We invite you to join us in celebrating these exceptional men:

  • Kye Allums: Allums is a former college basketball player and the first openly transgender athlete in NCAA Division I history. He is also an artist and a mentor for youth.

  • TiQ Milan: Milan is a writer, public speaker, activist, and strategic media consultant who is often seen on news outlets discussing transgender rights and the experiences of Black trans people. He has written for several prominent publications, including Ebony, The New York Times, and The Guardian.

  • Kylar Broadus: Kylar is a well-known attorney, professor, and activist. He made history in 2012 when he became the first openly transgender person to testify in front of the U.S. Senate, speaking in favor of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

  • Carter Brown: Carter is the founder and executive director of Black Transmen Inc., the first national nonprofit organization specifically focused on African American transgender men. His work is crucial in providing support and resources to this community.

  • Dezjorn Gauthier: A first responder, model, and advocate, Gauthier has used his platform to increase visibility and awareness about the transgender community, specifically focusing on transgender men. He is also the founder & CEO of Dezjorn International, an investment company that empowers businesses that want to make a positive impact on the world.

Take care,
